Trained as an actor at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School after early appearances with the National Youth Theatre.

Theatre: seasons with the RSC at Stratford and Newcastle; repertory in Bristol, Plymouth, Leicester, Birmingham, Manchester, Edinburgh, Exeter and Salisbury. Theatre in London includes: Buckingham in RICHARD III at the Open Air Theatre, Regent's Park; Bassanes in THE BROKEN HEART, De Brie in David Hirson's multi award-winning LA BETE (both at the Lyric, Hammersmith); Louis Wain in CAT WITH GREEN VIOLIN at the Orange Tree, Richmond; and Joey Percival in Shaw's MISALLIANCE for the RSC at the Barbican. Played Willy Nilly in Anthony Hopkins' production of UNDER MILK WOOD for The Prince's Trust, and assisted him on his film AUGUST, a reworking of Chekhov's UNCLE VANYA. In 1999 he played the lead role of Gallimard in David Henry Hwang's M. BUTTERFLY in Singapore. His most recent appearance was as Richard Greatham in HAY FEVER at the Royal Exchange, Manchester.

Radio: hundreds of radio appearances and recordings, mostly for the BBC, including Proust's IN SEARCH OF LOST TIME, KING LEAR, LES MISERABLES, BEN-HUR, THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, Tom Stoppard's IN THE NATIVE STATE, THE ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN and the title-role in LORD JIM. He was a member of the BBC Radio Drama Company from 1989 to 1991, and again in 2007/8. Recent highlights include Stephen Sharkey's KEPLER'S MUM'S A WITCH, a season of plays for Tom Stoppard's 70th birthday, Mark Tavener's comedy HIS MASTER'S VOICE, a brand new Agatha Christie mystery CROOKED HOUSE, and several plays in the award-winning FROM FACT TO FICTION slot.
